The electric vehicle revolution is accelerating, and Volkswagen is positioning itself at the forefront of this seismic industry shift. At The Amelia Concours event earlier this month, Volkswagen of America proudly showcased its current and upcoming electric models, blending the company's innovative approach with its electrified future vision.
Volkswagen's commitment to expanding its EV lineup stateside is clear, buoyed by the success of the ID.4 as the fifth best-selling EV in America last year. But the automaker has even bigger plans on the horizon with the imminent arrivals of the ID.7 sedan and ID. Buzz van.
The Flagship ID.7 Sedan
Leading the charge is the 2025 ID.7, billed as the range-topping hero of Volkswagen's EV stable. This premium, full-size sedan aims to deliver equal measures of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge tech. Available in 282-hp rear-wheel drive and 335-hp all-wheel drive configurations, the ID.7 pulls out all the stops with a stunning 15-inch infotainment display, an Augmented Reality Head-up Display, and an electro-chromic sunroof that can switch between opaque and transparent modes.
The Reimagined ID. Buzz
While the ID.7 represents Volkswagen's electric ambitions for the luxury segment, the 2025 ID. Buzz hearkens back to the company's iconic past while driving it into the future. A modern reincarnation of the classic VW Microbus, the spacious three-row ID. Buzz can accommodate up to seven passengers with ample cargo room. Its punchy 91-kWh battery promises a robust range, complemented by head-turning light signatures and a bevy of available tech treats like remote parking assist.
Yet Volkswagen's electrification strategy isn't just about shiny new models. The ID.4 SUV, fresh off a well-received 2023 model year refresh, receives notable upgrades for 2024, including a revised infotainment system, a more powerful dual-motor setup offering up to 335 horsepower, and an impressive 468-km range rating.
As Volkswagen of America's Mark Gillies noted, the "enthusiasm we saw for our EVs this weekend, particularly the ID. Buzz, reinforces our view that EVs will only become more popular with buyers in America as a more varied fleet of vehicles hits the market."
Volkswagen's pioneering spirit endures as it embarks on an electrifying new era. With the imminent arrivals of the ID.7 sedan and ID. Buzz van joining the pioneering ID.4 SUV, the German marque is staking its claim as a formidable force in America's electric future. Blending performance and forward-thinking technology, Volkswagen is driving towards an innovative, sustainable automotive landscape.
