Both the VW Jetta and Honda Civic are very popular on the Canadian market and both the Jetta and the Civic are some of the best-selling pre-owned compact sedans among consumers. The reasons for the popularity of each are easy to understand. The Jetta and the Civic deliver exceptional fuel economy and impressive safety features, while the reliability of both models has been confirmed multiple times over. That said, there are some differences between each model as well, and buying a pre-owned Jetta will appeal if you want impressive performance and a sporty overall drive to go with your efficient compact sedan.
Pre-Owned Jetta models have the upper hand in terms of performance and value
A pre-owned Volkswagen Jetta is the only car in the compact sedan segment to be designed and engineered in Germany. This gives the Jetta a distinct advantage in terms of how it feels on the road, the handling and confidence it offers, and the performance that it delivers.
Up until 2022, the Jetta was offered with a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that offered 148 horsepower and an impressive 184 pound-feet of torque. This level of torque is unrivaled by the Civic or any other compact sedan for that matter. The Jetta’s impressive torque means quicker accelerations and even quicker passing, but the fuel economy of the Jetta remains exceptional despite the performance. Used Honda Civic also offers a turbocharged four-cylinder, but it only offers 177 lb-ft of torque and it is not the standard engine. The standard powertrain in most Honda Civic used models on the market is a 2 L 4-cylinder which delivers 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque.
That means that the Jetta delivers more torque right out of the gate and the Civic by quite a bit and that regardless of which version of the pre-owned Jetta you buy, you will have more power than in a used Civic. That also means that Jetta owners will enjoy improved passing and more confident accelerations even in the base model, without having to sacrifice fuel economy as both cars average less than 7 litres per 100 km in fuel consumption.
The Jetta offers everything you want from your next vehicle with impressive performance to go along with class-leading efficiency. Give us a call today to learn more about our pre-owned VW Jetta models.
