The new 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI will start at $31,495 when it goes on sale later this year while the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R starts at $44,995. The first will come in three versions while the Golf R will be a single model with all of the features you could ever want.
Power will come from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque going to the Golf GTI’s front wheels. That’s 13 more ponies than the outgoing model. The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R gets 315 horsepower (27 extra over the last Golf R) and 295 pound-feet of torque (280 pound-feet) with the standard six-speed manual.
The Golf GTI and Golf R have been completely redesigned, featuring a new, more refined and advanced interior as well as subtle exterior changes that include a redesigned face and available light bar to really make these two pocket rockets stand out. The interior also gets a host of improvements including 30 ambient lighting options, a throwback golf-ball gear shift for the GTI, scale paper tartan seat pattern for the GTI, a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and available head-up display.
The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R are more powerful, but they will also handle better. Both feature the impressive Vehicle Dynamics Manager which provides a comprehensive improvement on driving performance by modulating all of the different assistance technologies. These include ESC, electronic differential lock, and the available adaptive damping system.
The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R will still feature the 4Motion all-wheel drive system which has been improved to provide better torque management. The system can send 100 percent of the available torque to an individual wheel and can reduce the cornering radius by sending all of the power to the rear exterior wheel to improve turn-in.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R are truly special. Not only do they record your driving data, but they are designed to be the best-handling, quickest, most enjoyable generations of their respective models.
