How do I know when to install winter tires on my Volkswagen?
Before the weather turns too cold, you should install your winter tires. A winter tire will maintain its flexibility even at temperatures below 7° and creeping towards the freezing point, while a summer tire or all-season tire will harden. This will cause longer braking distances while reducing grip on slippery surfaces. The best time to install winter tires on your Volkswagen is between mid-October and the end of October.
Do my winter tires have enough tread to last another season?
Your winter tires' effectiveness is determined by their tread depth. As snow accumulates on your tires, their deep tread allows them to evacuate it while their small grooves help create suction on icy roads. For this reason, you want to check the tread depth of your winter tires to determine if they are still in good condition, and you want the depth to be at least 4.8 mm to ensure that they will last all winter.
How about winter wheels?
For a couple of reasons, we recommend you get winter tires and winter wheels that fit those tires. In the long run, you can save money by purchasing a winter wheel and tire package since you'll be buying smaller winter tires down the road. In other words, you can decrease tire size by buying smaller winter wheels. Furthermore, buying winter wheels can save you money by preventing expensive repairs on your summer wheels, which may have been damaged by hidden sidewalks and other elements this winter.
