With spring upon us, we can now think about installing our summer tires. But many consumers have questions about summer tires. Here we answer the most frequently asked questions about summer tires.
When can I install my summer tires?
If the weather outside is not on average above 7 degrees, it is best to keep your winter tires. Generally speaking, it's towards the end of March/beginning of April before we change our tires. Conversely, the time to make an appointment for summer tires is now because there will be a lot of demand over the next few weeks.
Are my summer tires still good?
There are several ways to check if our summer tires are still good. We can use a specialized tool, check an indicator strip on our tires if they have it, or even use a good old quarter. Insert the caribou's nose toward the bottom of the tire groove. If you see the nose of the caribou, the tire needs to be replaced.
What are the differences between summer tires and all-season tires?
Generally, a summer tire is best suited to a high-performance vehicle. Conversely, an all-season tire is generally suitable for the majority of consumers. The all-season tire offers an ideal balance between comfort, safety and performance in all possible situations, such as rain for example.
Can I use my winter tires in the summer?
The answer is you can, but you shouldn't. The winter tire is not at all suitable for hot summer temperatures and the handling, safety and comfort of your vehicle will be compromised.
