The improved performance stems from several technical enhancements, including a larger turbocharger enabling higher boost pressure, stronger internal components, and a sophisticated variable valve lift system on both intake and exhaust sides.

Engineers have implemented a larger turbocharger and reduced the compression ratio to 10.5:1, while strengthening internal components like pistons, connecting rods, and the nitrided crankshaft. The 2026 Tiguan Turbo pairs its enhanced engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission featuring steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
