The Taos is an all-new compact SUV that stands out in design, power, and technology for its class. Although smaller than the Tiguan, it offers generous space within its segment, along with signature German engineering that enhances every facet of the driving experience. Each model also features an efficient turbo engine that develops outstanding torque for the road ahead.
We are excited at how the Taos lineup will impact its segment. To illustrate, we compare the 2022 Taos to the 2022 Kia Seltos.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos brings more powertrain value
Taos introduces a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It creates outstanding power and efficiency for its design because of new geometry and high injection pressure. This powertrain is standard across the model lineup.
Four out of five Seltos models rely on a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that rates at 146 horsepower and just 132 lb-ft of torque. That is quite a difference in response compared to the Taos. The top-grade SX Turbo is the only Seltos trim that offers a turbo with just a little more power, and starting MSRP is a steep (for its class) $34,900. The Taos starts around $26,695.
All but one Taos trim includes standard 4MOTION AWD. FWD models feature an 8-speed transmission, and AWD models receive a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The FWD drive Taos earns a very respectable 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway fuel consumption rating, topping the Seltos' highway rating of 7.1 L/100 km. The AWD Taos also has better highway fuel economy than the AWD Seltos trims.
The 2021 Volkswagen Taos is compact, yet roomy
Front and rear seat occupants in the Taos enjoy more head and shoulder room than the Seltos, emphasizing the 2,817 litres of available passenger volume.
However, it's also important for compact/subcompact crossovers to offer the most versatility as possible. The Taos includes 1,877 litres of cargo volume behind the rear seats, which is virtually 100 litres more than the Seltos.
As you shop, you will discover the Taos also extends many safety and other technologies as standard equipment throughout the lineup. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
