If you ask anyone to identify the best vehicle between the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta and the 2022 Honda Civic, many will answer the latter, but without really knowing why.
The Civic is not a bad car, far from it. In fact, it has been leading the compact class for years. However, that doesn't mean it's superior in every way, and that it can't run into rivals that have everything to give it a run for its money.
The case of the Volkswagen Jetta proves it, because despite its qualities, the Civic doesn't do everything as well as the Volkswagen representative. Here are a few examples that illustrate this.
The driving experience
If you're interested in Volkswagen products, it's because driving pleasure is high on your list of priorities. Here, the difference between the two models is marked. The new Civic is good in every way, but it forgets to tell us what's going on under its wheels. With the Jetta, there's complete communion with the road. In this respect, even if the Japanese know how to make excellent cars, nothing beats German engineering.
The manual transmission
The news came as a bombshell; the new Civic sedan no longer offers a manual transmission. Shocking.
That's not likely to happen at Volkswagen, because the presence of this type of transmission is in line with the brand's DNA, which is driving pleasure.
The price
The new 2022 Honda Civic may have been greatly improved, but the company has forgotten what made it so successful, namely the presence of an affordable variant in the lineup. For the next year, the Civic's price is around $25,000.
That's a lot.
With Volkswagen, it's still possible to get your hands on a version for just over $20,000. So, in addition to enjoying a car that's more fun to drive, you'll be putting money in your pocket.
In short, the gap between the Civic and the Jetta is imaginary. Stop by and take the Volkswagen model for a test drive; you won't want to settle for less.
