The 2021 Atlas is quickly becoming a common sight around Canada. It hasn't taken long for SUV enthusiasts to discover that it is one of the best values in the mid-size SUV marketplace. With two powertrain options, plenty of tech and amenities, leading basic warranty coverage and more wrapped into a reasonable price range, it's a simple decision to own one.
We are also excited to compare the Atlas to popular competition. Here, we line it up with the 2021 Atlas to the 2021 Ford Explorer.
The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas has better value
There are a variety of mid-size SUVs to choose from, but many come with big luxury SUV prices. The Atlas model series features MSRPs ranging from just over $40,000 to $48,995. That's a great value for the equipment and other features offered.
However, the Ford Explorer goes on a pricing rampage with an MSRP range of $44,549 to nearly $65,000. And that's without additional personalization with your finished model. For additional perspective, you can have an Atlas Highline (top grade) for less than the Explorer Limited, which is the next grade from the base Explorer. The Atlas is the more sensibly priced of the two vehicles.
While we discuss value, the Atlas also features advantages with its New Vehicle Warranty. Each Atlas features a 4-year, 80,000 km new-vehicle limited warranty. The Explorer's basic warranty diminishes to 3 years or 60,000 km.
The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is a versatile SUV
The Atlas outsizes the Explorer in a key area: cargo volume. It offers 2,741 litres of volume with all rows folded behind the front seats. This provides you maximum capability, especially if you need your load enclosed during colder months. The Explorer measures in with 2,486 litres, a significant difference.
Each Atlas also features more cargo room behind the second and third rows compared to the Explorer. No matter what configuration you require, the Atlas includes more space to load up what you need.
The additional room in the Atlas also translates into true 7-passenger seating with the most third-row leg room in its segment.
