Volkswagen offers buyers two high-quality SUVs, but they are very different from each other. On the other hand, if you can afford one of the models, you can probably afford the other. The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is a mid-size SUV with three rows of standard seats while the Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact five-seat SUV. Since Tiguan is one of the more spacious SUVs in its segment, it can compete with the Atlas in terms of versatility.
So, if you're a current Tiguan owner and wondering what to buy, or you're new to Volkswagen and don't know which SUV is right for you, let's take a closer look at both the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas and the Volkswagen. Tiguan 2021.
Price
Of course, the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is more affordable than the 2021 Atlas. The Tiguan starts at just under$30,000 while the Volkswagen Atlas starts at a little over $40,000. This is a big difference, but if you lease your next Volkswagen SUV, the difference will be about $ 200 per month between the two. In other words, the Atlas costs more, but not much more.
Interior space
The Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Atlas are among the more spacious SUVs in their respective segments. The Tiguan's total cargo space is between 1,065 liters and 2,081 liters, while the Atlas has 583 liters of cargo space with all seats in place and over 2,700 liters with each row folded down. There is no doubt that the Atlas is the more versatile option between the two. It's the most spacious in the front, middle and third row, while providing more cargo space. You can comfortably seat 7 people in the Atlas with five adults and two children. Everyone will be comfortable. The Tiguan is best for two adults and 3 teenagers or four adults. So, if your kids are growing up or are already teenagers and you tend to take long trips with a lot of stuff in the vehicle, the Atlas is probably the best option.
The Atlas is also the best option if you need to tow with your SUV, as it can tow up to 5,000 pounds, much more than the Tiguan. Of course, that means the Atlas and its 3.6-liter V6 engine isn't as fuel efficient as the Tiguan.
So, here is everything in summary. If you need space for five or more passengers and all of their luggage on a regular basis and need to tow, get the Atlas. If you're a younger family with small children, don't really have to tow and want to focus on lowering the costs of buying and owning, the Tiguan is the best option.
