The five-passenger mid-size sport utility vehicle segment has grown in popularity over the past year with several new models introduced in 2019. The 2020 Honda Passport and 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport are the latest models to hit the market. Unveiled at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee last October, the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Sport Cross has now arrived in dealerships.
It competes with the 2020 Honda Passport which was also unveiled in 2019. That said, Volkswagen's approach is completely different from Honda. Volkswagen’s DNA is focused on comfort, performance, handling, refinement and elegance. The German manufacturer believes that each experience behind the wheel must be unique and exciting and that your mid-size SUV is more than a means of getting from point A to point B.
Powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is also offered with a powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine. The latter develops 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 5,000 lb. Although it is a little less powerful than the Passport V6 engine, the Atlas Cross Sport is faster in acceleration and its towing capacity is equivalent.
A more upscale interior
The interior of the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is exceptionally beautiful and impresses with its elegant materials, advanced technology and inspired design. All the experts who have had the chance to see the Atlas Cross Sport 2020 in person will tell you that it surpasses its rivals like the Passport in terms of style and quality. There's plenty of space in the Atlas Cross Sport too with 1,141 liters of boot space even with all the seats in place. The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport therefore offers a combination of luxury and versatility not found in the Honda Passport.
A more comprehensive warranty
In closing, the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is protected by a full 4-year or 80,000 km warranty. The 2020 Honda Passport and all other 5-seater mid-size SUVs are covered by a 3-year or 60,000 km warranty. You are therefore better protected in the Atlas Cross Sport which gives you greater peace of mind while improving the resale value of the Volkswagen mid-size SUV.
